Trinity Christian-Deltona Returns To State Tournament
The Trinity Christian Eagles play a challenging schedule that prepares them for the playoff stretch. Tuesday night that preparation culminated in another big win for the program, as the Eagles 10-0 shut out victory over St. Andrew’s Episcopal earned the team the 2A Region 2 championship.
Trinity Christian (20-7) will face Seacrest Country Day in a 2A state semifinal, next week at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. It is the Eagles ninth berth in the state Final four over the past decade. The program has three state titles, with their last state championship coming in the 2012 season.
The Eagles have been much more vulnerable away from home this season, with five of their seven losses coming on the road. They were facing off against the upstart Lions (24-4) on their home turf at Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce, where St. Andrew’s Episcopal went 15-2 this year.
Competing in district play for the first time this season, the Lions rolled through their district to earn their first district championship. St. Andrew’s then won its first regional playoff game with a late rally over St. John Lutheran in a 2A regional semifinal.
But the Eagles left no question on Tuesday, opening up with the lead and then never looking back. All four teams in the 2A state Final Four are returning from last year’s group.
