Seven Rivers Christian Holds Off Victory Christian For 2A-5 Title
Following a grueling week of playoff baseball, the Seven Rivers Christian Warriors found one last surge in them and rallied late for a 5-4 win over the Victory Christian Storm, in Saturday evening’s 2A District 5 championship at Canterbury High in St. Petersburg. The Warriors (19-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for their second straight district title.
Trailing by a run and down to their final six outs, Seven Rivers struck for the winning runs. Zavier Delgado walked with one out and Carson Pillsbury delivered an RBI double to center that tied the game. A passed ball then allowed Carson to cross the plate with the deciding run.
Cameron Herrin had an RBI single that scored Eric Brady to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Storm (13-10) answered back with four runs in the top of the fifth to take control. Seven Rivers chipped away at that deficit with two runs in the fifth, as Gary Baker came through with a two-RBI single that plated Caleb Wharton and Josh Nelson.
Seven Rivers will next host Sarasota Christian in a 2A regional semifinal on Tuesday night.
